In today’s newletter, I’m thrilled to share my personal top 11 gift ideas for gardeners, all of which I’ve used and highly recommend. Whether you’re shopping for a friend or treating yourself, these gifts will certainly inspire some green thumbs!
SEED SPROUTING LIDS
First up are these seed sprouting lids. These are a perfect “starter” for anyone wanting to get into the growing game! Sprouts or microgreens are super nutritious and growing them in jars is so easy - even kids can enjoy this hobby. The ones I love to use come in a set of 2 and fit perfectly on wide mouth mason jars.
INDOOR HYDROPONIC SYSTEMS
Next gift idea perfect for indoor gardening is one of these deep water culture (DWC) hydroponic systems. These are most commonly referred to as an Aerogarden, but there are many brands and many different price points of this systems now available on the market. I presently own 4 DWC systems and use them for growing lettuces, herbs, tomatoes and even cucumbers. They take up minimal space and are pretty much a set it and forget it system perfect for beginner gardeners.
GROW LIGHTS
Another indoor gardening must have that helps chase the winter blues away are Grow Lights. Again these come in a whole wide range of shapes, sizes and price points. Whether it’s a simple LED shop light or lights specifically designed for growing plants, you can use these pretty much anywhere in your home for growing succulants, vegetables and flowers. And for those who like to get a jumpstart on their outdoor summer garden, growlights can help give those little seedlings a headstart.
HORI HORI KNIFE
The Hori Hori has become my favorite companion in my outdoor garden. I use it for Weeding, Digging, Pruning, Transplanting, Measuring and Cutting. The sharp blade has a seraded edge and includes a measurement ruler to help with proper planting depth. This Japanese inspired multi-purpose knife is built for versatility making it a perfect multi-purpose garden hand tool.
RAISED GARDEN BEDS
I absolutely love my raised garden beds. Raised Bed Gardening has become a very popular alternative to the traditional in ground method. Having an elevated garden space makes it easy to weed and maintain with less strain on your body. Raised garden beds come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors giving you endless design options for your garden.
BEE HOUSES
A bee house is a wonderful addition to any outdoor space. These homes can attract these amazing beneficial insects to your garden to help pollinate your vegetables and flowers. Watching bees come and go has been such a joy and I know it helps my plants thrive. Supporting wildlife while enhancing your garden’s health is a win-win.
GOOD QUALITY GARDENING GLOVES
I used to think that any cheap pair of gardening gloves that you may buy in bulk or get from the dollarstore are good enough until I received a pair of these Watson Gardening Gloves for a gift. What a gamechanger! The palms are made with water resistant full-grain goatskin leather making them super durable and comfortable. What’s really cool about these gloves is the spandex back is made from 96% recycled PET bottles. 1 - 500mL bottle is used to make 1 pair of gloves! Get yourself a pair and you’ll never go back to wearing cheap quality gardening gloves again.
BIRD FEEDERS
A suet feeder has added such a delightful element to my garden! I have mine located outside my window where during the winter, I can enjoy watching chickadees and woodpeckers pecking away and some tasty seeds. If you want to attract wildlife and enjoy nature this is a wonderful gift!
GROW BAGS
Grow bags are so versatile and take up minimal space, making them perfect for growing vegetables no matter where you live. They come in a whole variety of sizes making them suitable for those who may have limited outdoor growing space. I’ve grown tomatoes, herbs, squashes and even potatoes in grow bags all with great success. Grow bags are easy to move which is perfect if need to adjust your garden layout or move them in and out of sunny locations. Highly recommend!
GARDEN KNEELER
This is something that I just recently started using both in my indoor and outdoor gardening and it has been a lifesaver for my knees and back. It works great for weeding in my outdoor garden and when I am working in my indoor grow tent. It can be flipped over to double as a bench, its portable, lightweight and easy to fold and store when not in use. Get yourself a garden kneeler and your body will thank you!
